Ease your way of life through balance

My last few weeks have been very busy, to say the least. I have been working daily for three weeks in a row and I knew that it would take a toll on me sooner or later. My husband announced me that he needed to leave town the very next day for two days, right at the moment when I felt like I was at the onset of a cold. Well, we do what we need to do, so he went diligently to work and I hold on to the fort on my own and even add to my schedule things that were not planned. Needless to say, I got a cold, felt tired, had low energy and my digestion became sluggish. Who is to blame? Me and only me. I am the one who stayed up late in order to finish more work while I have no interruptions. I am the one who offered help, said yes, and did not listen to my body’s need.

After discussing on the phone with a friend, I came up to this realization again. The three homes I refer to on my environment page are interconnected like so many things in nature. As our lives went from one thing to the next neither without transition nor down time, we could not keep up with housecleaning, laundry and spent close to no time relaxing or being together as a family.

The result of this all was that my husband was stressed out and tired all week from the extra pressure at work. I was wiped out by taking care of the children on my own and trying to balance my work at home. The kids got their share of distraction, tiredness and all it encompasses. We broke our rhythm and it affected us immediately because this family rhythm is what keeps us balanced, healthy and happy. Our house became this reflection or ourselves: Untidy, messy, unattended, cluttered, and stagnant.

Our bigger environment, our planet is also a reflection of what is going on in our society. We are in so many ways in crisis, socially, environmentally, financially, that this cannot continue at this pace. While observing our environment more closely, one can realize that our planet is sending us big signals that we need to slow down, prioritize and change habit in order to find this balance again.

We have never seen so many people with what I could call luxury diseases that is, healthy issues related to most of us being financially and monetary ability to access pretty much anything anytime than ever before. We overeat, eat too much process food, overindulge in passive hobbies such as watching TV or using and type of screen, are surrounded by chemicals, etc. We have more cases of asthma, cancer, obesity, and diabetes than we never had before. This results in some similar diseases that we are afflicting on our Mother Earth.

We pollute our river like we pollute our blood. Fish and other water creatures die in water like our cells are dying in our blood.

We are breathing polluted air, smoking cigarette and what else, slowly destructing our lungs, increasing asthma rates, while at the same time we are polluting the air we breathe with more cars on the road, less tree to purify the air. Let’s not even think about all these materials that are emitting fumes like formaldehyde.

We are accumulating more stuff, to probably compensate for any lack we perceived in our lives instead of addressing the real issue, the root cause. At the same time, we are about to find out that we have no more landfill to bury our trash. We consume and gather more ‘’stuff’’ home, things that does not serve us well (and maybe these things never did have their place in our lives to start with) and we keep our toxicity within ourselves, with poor diet harmful habit, without any detoxification.

Even our fever can be compared with global warming, as the Earth is trying to send us a message: STOP. And that is what we did last weekend. We said to the kids: ‘’We stay home and find our rhythm. No social event, no staying late. It is not a punitive act, it is a loving act.’’

I had this epiphany a few years ago; I realized that my life mission is to share this view with others. What we do unto others including, the planet, we do unto ourselves. Our Mother is crying out loud, sending us signs that we need to change. I strongly believe that each and every individual change we make for the best is impacting positively our planet as well.

Once we find in ourselves a long term vision, we can then think about authentic sustainability. When refuse to eat that second plate, or to buy a cheap plastic toy that would have been going in the landfill in the next 30 days, we are changing the course of our live and the course of so many others around us.

Today I invite you to look at one thing, only one habit that you could change so we can succeed and change our lives and the lives of other for the best. It is amazing to think that by only showing up every day to become a better human being, we are healing our planet.
